Sheffield Hallam Probus Club
PROGRAMME:
What is Probus?
Probus is a short-hand for PROfessional and BUSiness. Probus is a club (or rather a set of independent clubs up-and-down the country and abroad) for people who are retired or are semi-retired from professional or business work. However the clubs are not exclusive and tend to welcome any retired or semi-retired person who is interested in meeting and talking with people of a similar background and in listening to talks on topics of general interest to members. In our case many of the talks are about local history, engineering or military matters. Some clubs are for men only some for women only and some are mixed.
What about Sheffield Hallam Probus?
The Sheffield Hallam Probus club is for men, but women are invited to some of the events. The club is has no religious, political, or charitable connotations. The club meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month from 10am to 12pm at Tapton Masonic Hall, Shore Lane off Fulwood Road Sheffield S10 3BU. We have a summer outing, ladies days and the annual dinner to which partners are invited. The current membership fee is £40 payable in two instalments of £20. There is no additional charge for attending regular club meetings although the Christmas Lunch and outings are charged for separately. The fees are mainly to hire the venue and pay speakers. The club is non profit making and all officers give their time freely.
